Anyone that is interested in lending a hand building a Moon Coccoon here in Portugal get in touch!
We are starting to build this 2.1 hectares into a permaculture based eco-village.
There is room for the right people to stay on with us and become part of the project.
Self sustainability is the target …
There is not much accomodation yet so you will need a campervan/tent etc.

Hi,
are you planning on building an earth bag dome, as shown in the video? Would like to hear more about this.
Thanks
Magnus
Hi Magnus..
Yes,, We have already started to build a Moon Coccoon very similar to the one shown in this video…
So far the foundation is almost ready for the first course.
We are hoping to attract some volunteers that would like to learn the correct way to construct it in return for the help..
There is also room here for permanent volunteers if they have the same ideals.
There are other constructions on our land that we have built and building in the shape of borders, an african keyhole garden, and more things planned for natural energy using this type of construction.
The only limits are your imagination..
Once built,, We will be running tutorial workshops for this and other subjects.,,
Thanks for your reply to my post Magnus..
Love and light, Vince.
Hello, I work for a charity called ecoshelter and we also build the cal earth domes…. I am presently looking to purchase land in portugal to set up a sustainable community….
I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions:
- are these domes not too hot for the heat in portugal?
- what do you chose to render them with in order for it to stay local and eco- friendly-and also appropriate for the climate?
-DO YOU HAVE ANY LINKS FOR AREAS WHICH ARE CHEAP TO BUY LAND But ALSO FERTILE AND WITH PLANNING PERMISSION??- I have only recenty diverted my attention from spain, so I need to start my researching from scratch. …..
Thanks very much

I would be most interested in following your progress, I plan to build using either superadobe or straw bales so would be very interested in your tutorials in the near future. I might not however be able to come to assist with your current project as my partner and I are expecting a child. Please do keep my details so that you can contact me when you do start tutorials.
Hi Miss Dreamweaver..
What can i say.. well done.. We need as many people on the eco projects as we can get..
I have also come to Portugal after learning of the horrors of the spanish red tape for alternative constructions and the vastly inflated prices for anything you can think of..
In fact i traveled for 15 months in a campervan through france, germany, austria, slovenia, croatia, italy, belgium, and spain looking for the right place,, I ended up here in Alpedrinha central Portugal with no regrets at all..
The local mayor saw my plans and within a day i had all the paperwork i needed to proceed.. with zero admin charges.. You could have knocked me down with a feather after what i had been through in Spain..
As for fertility,, this area is served with water from the serra de estrella (mountain of stars) all year round.. Its very lush here, They call it the fruitbowl of Portugal.
If you buy genuine Rustic land, There are no land taxes that i am aware of,, Most pieces of land are already endowed with fruit trees such as cherry, fig, apple, pear, tangerines, pomegranet,
etc, Lots of grapes everywhere.
I have come to know a few local farm owners that would like to sell and can put you in direct contact with them if you wish so avoiding the estate agents, They are a bit sharkey over here the same as spain.
I bought direct and saved thousands of euros..
Here is my facebook page if you want any more info, Please link up with me.. There are some pics on my albums of the land we have here..

Be well Miss Dreamweaver.. Love and light, Vince.
Hi wouter mitty
Thanks for your interest in the eco dome project…
I have looked into straw bale building in the past and found that the longivity can be an issue with some of them lasting only 15 years before repairs are needed…
Eco-dome has an expected life more near 400 years so it might be worth having a good ponder between the two…
Here is my facebook link so that you can stay updated as and when we make progress and be a part of the project through your computer for the time being..
Send me a friend request and i will respond.

Hi Vince
It’s like a breath of fresh air to find someone else serious about superadobe/earthbag building in Portugal. I’d love to know more about the plans you had to show the local mayor. Were you given the green light to build a temporary or permanent structure?
I don’t do facebook but you have my email address if you prefer.
Take good care of yourself,
yozz

Hello there,
I find this kind of project very interesting. I am currently living in the Netherlands. I would like to visit to offer myself to help with the project. I am trained chef so could offer my skills on this side of things if any cooking or garden work needs done, but also I am more than capable of helping with what ever is needed.
Let me know your thoughts, success to you.
hi
we have currently sold our property in the uk and looking for a long term eco project to lend a helping hand and learn the skills we need to further any future project of our own.
i am a plasterer and jo is a accountant, we have 2 young children and dogs and we presently live on a converted double decker bus on our own land in the uk, we will be travelling with the bus so access to your land would need some thought.
can you use our help?
regards
steve
Hi Lee.
We are continuing work on the eco-dome in the springtime when the weather is a little better.. By all means stay in touch with us and maybe come over in the spring..
There is also room for people of the right calibur to join in the eco-farm project on a more permanent basis…
I can be contacted by e-mail here.. travellingmercedes@hotmail.com
My Portuguese number is (00351) 925049053
Kindest regards, Vince..
Hi Steve..
Great that you have an interest in eco-building and you would be welcome to visit us anytime,, Dogs included,, But,, You will need a smaller vehicle to get access to the land.. Our track is simply too small to accomodate a double decker. the width is around nine feet at its smallest but there are bends in it that will wedge you.. Only way i can think of is chat up a chinook pilot to give you an airlift…
The largest vehicles we have had up the track is 4x4s with caravans and small lorries. We managed to get our 5 and a half tonne mercedes campervan in with room to spare.
If you change your vehicle for any reason please contact me again..
All the best.. Vince
How’s the Eco dome going?

hello,
…i am coming to portugal very soon to have a look around for some land to fulfill a very similar dream to the one you are describing… i have got some money and spent a lot of last year looking to buy a small farm in ireland, it has just fallen through sadly, but maybe it is a blessing in disguise, because it seemed to be a bit of a nightmare with planning permission etc. and i don’t know where it stood at all on things like earth domes etc. but that is what i envisioned to be doing, so… i am wondering if it would be ok to visit you whilst i am there, i am happy to help out with anything that i can.. and also to see an earthdome for real.. and maybe help towards building one? also i noticed that you said to another enquirer above that you know peole who want to sell land etc. and you could put them in touch… could you extend this to me also? anyway, i hope to hear from you soon, and hope to even meet you soon too… All the very best with your projects, it is inspiring to see you doing it.. thank you for that… one love, and best blessings… she. x
Hi Vince have just found this site after following a a link from pureportugal page. My partner chris and our three little girls having been planning our dream earthbag dome for 5 years now but like so many others have found the spanish system so difficult and can not find what we are looking for here in andalusia. So at last i am thrilled to see that portugal embraces the alternative and even allows home schooling!! We are coming to central portugal for three weeks from 17th of May this year in the hope of finding land to buy or rent amoungst like minded people. We are also very interested in being part of a eco community/project (cant think of a better way to educate our girls) and until i read the blogs here had all but given up hope of finding one! would love to come and visit your dome home while we are over any connections you think might help us would be very much appreciated love kayte xx

Hi,
I am just in the process of buying land at Vale das Lobas in order to build a Eco dome myself. I would be able to lend my services in the spring time for 1 or 2 weeks. I would be very interested to also learn how you waterproof the foundations as I know these domes are usually built in more arid climates.
Thanks
Alastair
