Hi, my wife and I are both British, in our 40's and are living in Canada, we have spent the last 3 years looking for a place to move to and we have finally decided to vist the Azores and portugal to see if like it. We will be arriving from Canada in Lisbon on the 12th March. We will be searching for areas for 2 weeks to live in and we would be interested in your proposal. We were wondering what is involved in the upkeep of the farm. We live on 2.5 acres of land with lots of trees some fruit trees and a large vegetable plot which we love in this secluded area. I hope to hear from you soon and if u need any more information let us know.

Hi wouter mitty

Thanks for your interest in the eco dome project...

I have looked into straw bale building in the past and found that the longivity can be an issue with some of them lasting only 15 years before repairs are needed...
Eco-dome has an expected life more near 400 years so it might be worth having a good ponder between the two...

Here is my facebook link so that you can stay updated as and when we make progress and be a part of the project through your computer for the time being..
Send me a friend request and i will respond.

Congratulations on your new baby...

Love and light, Vince.

Hi Miss Dreamweaver..

What can i say.. well done.. We need as many people on the eco projects as we can get..

I have also come to Portugal after learning of the horrors of the spanish red tape for alternative constructions and the vastly inflated prices for anything you can think of..

In fact i traveled for 15 months in a campervan through france, germany, austria, slovenia, croatia, italy, belgium, and spain looking for the right place,, I ended up here in Alpedrinha central Portugal with no regrets at all..
The local mayor saw my plans and within a day i had all the paperwork i needed to proceed.. with zero admin charges.. You could have knocked me down with a feather after what i had been through in Spain..

As for fertility,, this area is served with water from the serra de estrella (mountain of stars) all year round.. Its very lush here, They call it the fruitbowl of Portugal.

If you buy genuine Rustic land, There are no land taxes that i am aware of,, Most pieces of land are already endowed with fruit trees such as cherry, fig, apple, pear, tangerines, pomegranet,
etc, Lots of grapes everywhere.
I have come to know a few local farm owners that would like to sell and can put you in direct contact with them if you wish so avoiding the estate agents, They are a bit sharkey over here the same as spain.
I bought direct and saved thousands of euros..

Here is my facebook page if you want any more info, Please link up with me.. There are some pics on my albums of the land we have here..

I would be most interested in following your progress, I plan to build using either superadobe or straw bales so would be very interested in your tutorials in the near future. I might not however be able to come to assist with your current project as my partner and I are expecting a child. Please do keep my details so that you can contact me when you do start tutorials.

Hello, I work for a charity called ecoshelter and we also build the cal earth domes.... I am presently looking to purchase land in portugal to set up a sustainable community....
I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions:
- are these domes not too hot for the heat in portugal?
- what do you chose to render them with in order for it to stay local and eco- friendly-and also appropriate for the climate?
-DO YOU HAVE ANY LINKS FOR AREAS WHICH ARE CHEAP TO BUY LAND But ALSO FERTILE AND WITH PLANNING PERMISSION??- I have only recenty diverted my attention from spain, so I need to start my researching from scratch. .....
Thanks very much

Hi Fraser,

I've just been passed your details from Pete down in Benfeita.

We have about 1.5 hectares in Caramulo mountains of central Portugal - mostly terraced, but some woodland and surrounded by forest and scrub land - south facing with a stream running down the border.

We have a number of buildings, mostly run-down, but one of which we live in - there is also a VW campervan parked on a terrace - with stunning views, it's own water and power from our solar system - it's also got a small kitchen.

We have a number of people coming or planning to come to stay with us to help out - but we're ideally looking for people with projects, skills and / or equipment.

We'd love to meet you - that's always a good way to start a relationship - are you anywhere near or willing to visit?

to see some photos of our land visit:

Good luck and hope to speak to you soon.
