We’re mailing you to tell you about a Meditation Marathon that we’re having this weekend – 22-23 January.

You may know a little about what we’re doing here. (If you want to know more, have a look at our vision page).  What you may not know is about the kind of impact that we can have on people’s lives. If you read some of the stuff written by volunteers who have been here, you will see that being here can be a really transformative experience for people. Olga, Dan, Joann, Dan2, Antonio, Deanna.

The problem is that with our current infrastructure we can’t accommodate many people, and we get so many requests from people who want to come here. We also want to hold more events here. We ran an “introduction to permaculture” weekend and a couple of courses, and realised that we really need better facilities.

So what we want to do is to finish the renovation of the building known as “The Big House”, which will then have a communal area, sleeping area, kitchen and shower room. The problem is that we don’t have the money for this, and although we are all trying everything we can to earn some extra cash, at our current rate of earning this will take about 10+ years!

So we decided to do some fundraising, and our first event is the Meditation Marathon. For details see our fundraiser & renovation plan. We’re feeling very positive about this. We only sent an e-mail out to friends in the UK last night, and already we have £50. Just as importantly, people are responding really positively to what they’re reading about us, and it feels great to share the message of what is possible.

We are creating natural lakes for irrigation, reed-bed and dry composting sewerage systems, micro-grid power generation and storage facilities, camping and rentable accommodation for visitors, permanent eco-dwellings, artisan workshops, an organic farmers co-operative, using permaculture designs and food forest landscaping.

However, we now face a major challenge: to secure the payment for the heart of the project, the 16th century manor house, known locally as O Seminario. It will be a sanctuary for peace and inspiration, providing courses and workshops to encourage creative change and healing. As a multi-faith centre, people of all and no religions will be welcome. The programme of courses will run throughout the year, synchronised to the agricultural calendar.

There are permissions for eco-construction now available for 11 of our plots. Eventually there will be at least 40 plots available. If you would like to join this project, land is now available to purchase. Please contact us to arrange a viewing visit.

We have invested over 500,000 euros to acquire the manor house and lands.  A final 200,000 euros is needed by the completion date of 12th January 2011. For this inspirational project to become secure, and develop organically without commercial pressures, your donations are needed now ……..
